Sony Ericsson and The Carphone Warehouse gave away free flowers to mums on the streets of London on Mother's day.
The campaign was to promote the new Sony Ericsson W595 Sakura handset as the perfect alternative to flowers for your mum.
Sony Ericsson also partnered with florist Carly Rogers to put together a list of the top ten flowers to go for on Mother's Day and the ten to avoid, in a bid to educate people in the language of flowers.
Since the Victorian period, flowers have been used to communicate hidden messages and coded meanings. Tulips are traditionally a declaration of love, irises symbolise warmth and affection, while the word orchid is derived from the Greek for male genitalia and lime blossom symbolises fornication.
“Many people nowadays pick bouquets without a second thought, looking at the aesthetic rather than the deeper meaning of the flowers,” says Rogers. “Working with Sony Ericsson to identify the top 10 flowers to be given on Mother’s Day has meant delving into the Ancient and Victorian periods, where floriography was deconstructed and constructed. Though all flowers are beautiful, perhaps pussy willow sounds like the best option to go for on Mothering Sunday and lime blossom best saved for Valentine’s Day!”
The launch will also run in stores across the capital. Between the 18 to 21 March, there will be floral installations positioned in The Carphone Warehouse stores across London with information on flowers.
