New digital marketing courses

May 2010

Ten new digital marketing courses have been introduced by The Chartered Institute of Marketing for 2010.

The Institute has teamed up with Yahoo! to ensure courses are informed by the latest developments, case studies and examples of best practice. The new additions to the training programme promise to cover a greater breadth of subjects and depth of knowledge across this fast evolving discipline.

As well as needing to get to grips with the many new developments in areas such as social media, CIM course director Daniel Rowles explains that marketers must not neglect more tried and tested practices. “Search engines still remain the most important source of traffic to your website; e-mail marketing still offers fantastic return on investment when done well; and website analytics can tell you how your website is performing,” he says.

The Institute has added advanced courses in search marketing and e-mail marketing to enable marketers to further their expertise in these areas. Other new training on offer includes social media marketing programmes specifically tailored for B2B, public sector and not-for-profit marketers.

For those interested in formal digital marketing qualifications, CAM’s two digital programmes will also run at CIM Academy from summer 2010. The CAM Diploma in Digital Marketing and Diploma in Managing Digital Media are taught via a blend of online tuition and face-to-face workshops to provide maximum flexibility.

Commenting on the importance of keeping up with the latest digital developments, Institute director of research and professional development David Thorp says: “Customer organisations across business sectors and consumers of all generations and across geographical boundaries are moving away from traditional media towards digital. The impact on marketing is significant – a good understanding of the latest trends in digital marketing is becoming a must, from strategy development to campaign implementation.”
