Marketers see chartered status revoked

The Chartered Institute of Marketing has revoked the chartered status of 46 marketers following its 2008-2009 audit.

 

Chartered status is awarded with authority from the Queen’s Privy Council. The annual audit, which covers a random 10 per cent of chartered marketers, is intended to maintain standards. Those selected must produce evidence of 35 hours of continuing professional development (CPD), failure to do so resulting in the loss of chartered marketer status.

 

The 2008-2009 audit saw 46 marketers judged by the Institute not to have fulfilled the requirements of chartered status. This is an improvement on the previous year’s figure of 87.

 

David Thorp, director of research and professional development, commented, “It’s important that all marketers on our chartered CPD programme maintain their commitment to professional development and continue to learn and develop.” Almost 14,000 marketers around the world are involved in the Institute’s chartered CPD programme, an increase of 34 per cent over the past 12 months.
